If you have a concessionary bus pass for travel you will not have to pay for the ticket when you travel on a bus. If you are registered as a  disabled person or receive a pension then you can apply for one. It is very useful, these days bus fares are not cheap.

I am eligible for Concessionary Bus Pass Travel because I am registered as disabled. There are no problems taking my lightweight mobility scooter onto buses in and around the Chilterns area or London. The regulations for bus travel do vary from area. For example I know that mobility scooters are not allowed onto buses in and around Edinburgh area.

Also do check the hours when the concessions are valid. In Hertfordshire it is only applicable between 9.30am and 11pm weekdays and all day during the weekend and bank holidays.

Some simple answers

  •  If you are disabled then you are entitled to free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England
  • Off Peak times are as follows
    • between 9.30 am and 11.00 pm Monday to Friday
    • all day at weekends and on public holiday
  • You’re eligible for a disabled person’s pass if you live in England and are ‘registered disabled’.
  • You must apply to your council for a disabled persons bus pass.
  • Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have their own concessionary bus pass system.

Recently I have been using the buses extensively and bus pass has saved me a lot of money. It’s well worth having one.

You can also get discount cards for coaches and trains, 30% discount for each. For trains that includes a 30% discount on a ticket for your carer.
